Dave Hollis’ Ex Heidi Powell Reveals Final Text He Sent Her Before His Death

Heidi Powell is sharing the last text messages she received from her ex Dave Hollis before his death. 

The fitness trainer, 42, said while appearing on the Nov. 13 episode of the Him & Her podcast that she and Hollis, who died of an accidental drug overdose on Feb. 11, 2023, “never stopped talking until the night he died” and that she has “beautiful closure” from his last texts sent to her.

Powell, who split with Hollis before his death, recalled having “amazing conversations” with the self-help author and former Disney executive, that “would shift I will say towards the end of his life.”

She shared that the last text he sent her was on the day he died, which happened to also be her son’s birthday, and that it was “like his soul knew it was time.”

“He sent me the most insightful [messages], like, ‘Hey, you know, coming to grips with where you and I are … I’m not just losing you. You’re not just losing me. We’re losing our kids.’ And telling me how much I meant to him,” Powell recalled. “… It was the most beautiful day, of text messages and phone conversations ever.”

“There is closure with him, the most beautiful closure,” she said. “Our conversation we had right before we went to bed that night and yeah, I feel complete.”

Hollis died at age 47 from an accidental overdose of cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol on Feb. 11, 2023. He and Powell dated after his split from his ex-wife Rachel Hollis in 2020 after 16 years of marriage. The pair shared four children.

Powell revealed earlier on the podcast that she and the YouTube personality and mogul had broken up “a handle of times” and that the pair “never got to a point where we talked about marriage” as they were living in separate states with their children. 

“He’s in Texas. I’m in Arizona. We have kids that are different ages … he’s not gonna uproot his kids and his ex-wife, I’m not gonna approve mine … and so we never really got past the soul connection,” she said. “Building a life wasn’t even a thing we ever talked about,” adding that it was “not realistic.”

Powell said that when “challenges” came up for Hollis in their relationship, of which she did not specify, she believed he would “start to make the decisions to heal for me instead of for [him].”

She revealed that the pair eventually broke up for good and “he went into treatment.”

Powell previously spoke out about Hollis’ death in a video posted on Instagram in April 2023. 

“Dave and I had broken up before, and so there are a lot of question marks for me,” Powell said in the video, admitting that the two, who began dating in 2020, had broken up sometime before his death.

“None of what I know now takes away from the life he was in this world and it doesn’t take away from the things I love about him,” she added.
