Helldivers 2 is out now for players to enjoy, but to what extent? Can you play Helldivers 2 locally via a couch co-op mode? Continue reading to find out.
Helldivers 2: Does it have local multiplayer/split-screen?
The first Helldivers game did include a local coach co-op mode, but unfortunately, Helldivers 2 does not have any type of local co-op couch multiplayer option. It does have online co-op and it does have cross-platform play.
If you want to play with your friends, even the ones that just visited you in hopes of protecting Super Earth in Helldivers 2, will need to connect through the internet by using their own platform, whether PC or PS5. This might be far from ideal for all the Helldivers old-school fans, but the total overhaul that has happened in Helldivers 2 might justify the decision. After all, Helldivers was an isometric game that adapts more easily to a local co-op experience than a third-person shooter game such as Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2: Couch co-op in the future?
While Arrowhead Games may introduce a coach co-op mode in the future, fans of the franchise will have to wait for any updates or announcements regarding this functionality.
For the time being, online connectivity will be the only way you may get together with your friends and enjoy some third-person shooting action in Helldivers 2. Be sure to keep an eye out for any server instabilities that may arise during the Helldivers 2 release and its following days. Unfortunately, connection issues are more frequent than before, so perhaps a couch co-op mode wasn’t a bad idea after all.
What if you don’t want multiplayer? Find out if you can solo Helldivers 2 or not.
