US publishing giant Electronic Arts has made another 23 accessibility patents available for developers to use.
Among the patents being rolled out are intelligent personalised speech recognition, the ability to generate express speech audio from text and generating in-game speech in a player’s voice. That’s on top of using machine learning to change voices to an appropriate age, changing a game’s music based on a player’s emotional state and dynamically selecting speech functionality on a client device.
“We believe that games should be accessible to everyone and our industry-leading teams are always looking for new ways to make this a reality,” EA’s SVP of global affairs Kerry Hopkins said.
“By making this technology available to others, we continue to work to enhance accessibility and inclusivity for players around the world by removing unintended barriers to access.”
EA first unveiled its accessibility patent pledge in 2021.
