Free Fire to debut new Winterlands: Aurora event to mark the festive season

By mzaxazm

  • Free Fire is the latest to mark the winter season with their new Winterlands 2024 update
  • It adds in a new major character in the form of Koda
  • You can also benefit from new, enhanced and seasonally-themed movement tech

As it gets colder it seems only inevitable that more and more top games are leaning into it with winter-themed events. And the latest to tackle the snowy weather is none other than Garena’s Free Fire, as they unveil their latest update with Winterlands 2024! Boasting a new character, movement skills and more to mark the season.

First off, Koda, what’s his deal? Well, this arctic-born young man wields a mystical fox mask which heightens his senses and abilities. To mark this he has his distinctive Aurora Vision, which offers him an edge in enemy detection and mobility. With it, you’ll be able to spot enemies behind cover who aren’t crouching or prone, as well as highlight enemy locations when parachuting in.

Next up is one of the biggest additions for winter with Frosty Tracks. These new ice-covered rails allow you to dash around the map while shooting, turning and using throwables. Special Coin Machines placed along the tracks will also nab you a great gift of 100 FF coins, which can be collected while gliding. These tracks will appear in both Battle Royale and Clash Squad modes.

Not only that but you’ll also be able to spot the new Aurora Events debuting in both modes, with aurora-affected Coin Machines in Battle Royale and aurora-affected Supply Gadgets in Clash Squad. Completing the event quest by interacting with these aurora-affected items will grant a buff to all teammates.

Meanwhile, while Free Fire might be top of the charts for many, there are still plenty of great releases to play with friends. Not sure where to start in broadening your palate?
