‘Maxima’ Renewed For Season 2 By Videoland, Beta Film

EXCLUSIVE: Maxima, the Crown-esque royal drama from Beta Film, has been renewed for a second season in the days leading up to its premiere.

The show, which led Beta’s catalog at the recent London TV Screenings and Series Mania, will film later this year, and the German major has struck a slew more sales.

Starring Argentinian actor Delfina Chaves, Maxima tells the story of Dutch queen Máxima Zorreguieta and is one of the few shows about a living royal out there. In Season 2, Máxima finds that maintaining the love of the Dutch people is not as easy as winning it. As a spirited Argentine, she must navigate career ambitions and family dynamics to establish her position within the tight framework and strict protocol of the royal house. The series has drawn comparisons with now-concluded Netflix royal smash The Crown.

The news comes on the eve of the premiere of the first season on RTL Netherlands‘ streamer Videoland, with Maxima set to launch in a few days’ time. The six-hour first season is produced by Millstreet Films.

Beta has also sold Maxima to Italy’s public broadcaster Rai as well as Israel’s HOT, Latvia’s LTV, Honk Kong’s Now TV. It was previously bought by Germany’s RTL, WBD in Latin America and Austria’s ORF.

Beta is also behind big-budget European epic Rise of the Raven, which tells the story of the commander who defeated the Ottoman army in the Battle of Belgrade in 1456.
