Relic makes layoffs as it becomes independent

Company of Heroes maker Relic Entertainment is cutting some jobs as the firm prepares to go independent.

In a post on LinkedIn, the developer said that that it had let go an undisclosed number of staff, adding that it was “working closely” with impacted employees on severance and benefits. According to external development producer Robyn Smale on LinkedIn, 41 members of staff have lost their jobs.

“Letting people go was not an easy decision, and was made solely with the goal of providing Relic the best possible chance to survive in an increasingly volatile industry,” the studio wrote.

“It does not in any way reflect the expertise, passion, or character of any of the impacted employees.”

The company continued: “To those we are saying goodbye to, we are deeply sorry that it has come to this. We thank you for everything you have done for our studio and our projects, and we wish you all the best.”

Sega recently announced it was selling Relic to a holding company set up by UK investment outfit Emona Capital.
