Rise of Hydra launches in 2025 and features Captain America and Black Panther – WGB

Marvel has lifted the lid on its newest game titled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a “narrative-focused action-adventure” featuring Captain America and Black Panther due out in 2025.

The new game, set in the midst of World War II, is being developed by Skydance New Media, the new videogame arm of Skydance led by industry vet Amy Hennig. Hennig has had a strong career, including directing and writing on the Uncharted series, and the criminally overlooked Legacy of Kain games. With that said, she’s had a few duds too, like writing Battlefield Hardline.

The game focuses on Captain America’s first meeting with Black Panther, who in 1943 is Azzuri, the grandfather of current-day Black Panther T’challa. They’ll be joined by US Soldier Gabriel Jones, and Wakandan spy Nanali. Given the name, I think we can safely assume the game will delve into Hydra, an organisation within the Marvel universe typically associated with classic baddie Red Skull.

Exactly how the new game will play out is a mystery. Skydance New Media is described as “a groundbreaking convergence of games, film, and television.” What we do know is its running on Unreal 5 and looks bloody gorgeous.

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig, President, Skydance New Media. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

The debut trailer has certainly caught my eye. The voice acting for Black Panther is excellent, and I love the setting. If they can nail the story and gameplay, Marvel might be on to a winner.

No platforms or a more precise release date were mentioned.
