Succession’s Sarah Snook to Make Broadway Debut in ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’

Sarah Snook is Broadway bound! The Emmy-winning Succession star will make her debut on the Great White Way this spring in The Picture of Dorian Gray.

The play is set to premiere in March 2025, through official dates and a theater will be announced at a later date.

A stage adaptation of Oscar Widle’s 1890 novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray tells the story about a young man who trades his soul for eternal youth. Directed by Kip Williams, the play is his “interpretation of beauty, excess, and a deal with the devil brings a striking resonance in our current era, holding a mirror to 21st century society’s narcissistic obsession with youth,” per a release from the producers.

Snook, 36, will play 26 characters in the production, which employs “an explosive interplay of video and theater through an intricately choreographed collection of on-stage cameras.”

She previously starred in The Picture of Dorian Gray at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, where the show earned two Olivier Awards including a best actress trophy for Snook. Developed by the Sydney Theatre Company, the production premiered in Australia back in 2020, extending twice in Sydney before touring the content.

“I was so humbled by the response from audiences in London to The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I could not be more thrilled to be bringing this work to Broadway. It has been extraordinary to witness the way Oscar Wilde’s story continues to resonate with people today,” Williams said in a statement.

He added, “I am so excited for audiences in New York to experience our show and to see the tour-de-force performance Sarah Snook gives in bringing to life the many characters in this new adaptation of Wilde’s remarkable story.”

Snook also had a positive experience during the production’s initial engagement, saying in a statement that “it was a singular privilege to bring The Picture of Dorian Gray to life in London and I am thrilled we will be able to share this astonishing production with audiences in New York.”

The actress said, “From Oscar Wilde’s timeless words to the masterful reinterpretation Kip Williams has created, this tale of virtue, corruption, vanity and repercussion is an electrifying journey for me as much as for the audiences and I am filled with anticipation as we continue on this ambitious creative endeavor.”

While most famous for her turn as Shiv in Succession, HBO’s award-winning family drama, Snook has previously taken the stage with various productions in Australia as well as London, where she starred alongside Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder at the Old Vic Theatre.

Following Succession, Snook appeared on-screen in films, such Run Rabbit Run and The Beanie Bubble. She’ll make her return to TV in Peacock’s limited series adaptation of the Andrea Mara novel, All Her Fault, opposite Dakota Fanning, Michael Peña, Jay Ellis and Jake Lacy.
