Grab your passports (and some popcorn) because it’s time to head back to the White Lotus!
Following the season 2 finale of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus in 2022, fans were shocked when the official @streamonmax Instagram account shared a cryptic post on the morning of Monday, Dec. 16, teasing a major announcement.
The caption of the post, which also unveiled the new poster for the upcoming season, teased, “In one hour, karma comes for everyone.” The poster, itself, featured a white lotus flower against a green backdrop, paired with the same tagline, “Karma comes for everyone.” Subtle details in the poster hinted at possible plot twists—snakes camouflaged within the flower’s filament and gold outlines of buildings in the background.
Just an hour later, the mystery of what karma exactly would be coming for everyone unraveled with the reveal of the latest trailer for the upcoming series.
Since the HBO drama is an anthology series, each season of The White Lotus follows a new crop of guests enjoying, or perhaps not enjoying, their vacation at different White Lotus resorts. While the first season was set in Hawaii and the second in Sicily, the third will head to Southeast Asia, and fans got a sneak peek into what exactly is in store for these new guests as they head east.
While fun and play are definitely in store for guests checking into the White Lotus, some visitors like Parker Posey‘s character know that “something is off.” Michelle Monaghan‘s own character also wonders “what the f— is this place” as another person notes they “almost died today.”
Even amid the chaos, a guest played by Aimee Lou Wood notes to what appears to be her significant other, played by Walton Goggins, “But we got the room comped, didn’t we, babe?”
HBO announced in January that new cast members set to star in the upcoming third season installment were Monaghan, Posey, Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs and Tayme Thapthimthong were among those listed.
A few weeks later, season 3 added five more members to its cast: Goggins, Wood, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Fans will recognize at least one familiar face in the new season’s cast. In April 2023, Variety reported that Natasha Rothwell, who played spa manager Belinda Lindsey, will return for season 3.
Because The White Lotus is an anthology series, each season doesn’t necessarily pick up from where it last left off. Series creator Mike White hinted at potential plot points for the upcoming season when speaking about each season’s respective themes during a Max featurette after the second season’s final episode aired.
“The first season we highlighted money and then the second season is sex and I think the third season, it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality — it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus,” he said.
Season 3 of The White Lotus is set to premiere on Feb. 16, 2025.
