Did you see Donatella Versace at the 2024 Met Gala with Andrew Scott on one arm and Jude Law on the other? One woman, two Ripleys. Nice move. This outfit is the sartorial equivalent of the Ripley crossover. The pastel shades are in keeping with the beautiful scenes along the Amalfi Coast in the Anthony Minghella film – while the gentlewomanly feel is a nod to Marge Sherwood (played by Dakota Fanning) in the Netflix series. I liked her style (much more my thing than the classic 1950s ensembles sported by Gwyneth Paltrow).
Apart from the occasional dollop of mustard, yellow is a colour I’ve never really worn before. So. Earlier in the year when sustainable knitwear label Herd asked if I’d like a jumper made from UK wool, knitted in north-west England, of course I immediately said yes. That is my homeland, after all, and I will always support local manufacturing. The Ingleton jumper is a cropped shape with a neat collar available in this lovely shade of yolk. Symbolically, yellow signals joy and optimism, and we could all do with a truckload of that, right now.
For an easy spring update, an accent colour will boost the basics. Traditionally, I have always shied away from yellow, considering it a challenging tone to wear; but as with most colours, you just have to find the right shade to suit your complexion. Yellow pops brilliantly when teamed with reassuring neutrals, such as: camel, navy, grey, white and khaki. And it looks excellent with denim (both faded and dark). Once you start to experiment and introduce a few sunny items to your favourite, everyday basics, the colour fear starts to fade. Just remember, like a quick limoncello after dinner, one shot is all you need to add impact.

The Ingleton jumper made from UK wool and knitted in NW England, was a gift from Herd. I bought the balloon trousers from Kin at John Lewis. Unfortunately, Kin doesn’t exist anymore but Cos has a similar style HERE and Alex Mill, HERE and for a splurge, try Toteme HERE. The Lynn gloss leather loafers are from Grenson. (Loaned for the shoot but I’m thinking they might be a good investment buy).
